About the Role
Youth Center Inc. is seeking a reliable, responsible, and safety-focused Driver to provide daily transportation for children enrolled in our Before & After School Program. The driver will transport children between our Cheshire location and North Adams Public Schools each school day.
This is a split-shift position, with approximately 3 hours of work per day, Monday through Friday.
Schedule
-Morning Shift: Transport children from Youth Center Inc. in Cheshire to their North Adams schools.
-Afternoon Shift: Pick children up from their North Adams schools and transport them back to the Youth Center.
-Approximately 15 hours per week.
-Additional driving opportunities may occasionally be available for field trips or other Youth Center programming.
Requirements
Responsibilities
Safely transport children to and from school each day.
Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Ensure all children are properly seated and secured before the vehicle is in motion.
Maintain accurate transportation and attendance records.
Follow assigned routes and maintain timely school pick-up and drop-off schedules.
Conduct a complete vehicle check after every route to ensure no child or belongings remain in the vehicle.
Maintain a safe, calm, and respectful environment while children are being transported.
Follow all Youth Center Inc. transportation policies and applicable Massachusetts transportation and safety requirements.
Immediately report vehicle concerns, accidents, incidents, delays, or safety concerns to administration.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the vehicle.
Communicate professionally with Youth Center staff, school personnel, children, and families.
Assist with transportation for field trips or other programming when scheduled and available.
Qualifications
Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Must meet all requirements necessary to operate the Youth Center's school pupil transportation vehicle.
Must be dependable and able to consistently work both morning and afternoon shifts.
Experience transporting or working with children is preferred.
Must demonstrate good judgment, patience, and a strong commitment to child safety.
Must be able to successfully complete all required background record checks and employment requirements.
Must complete any required training, certifications, medical examinations, and transportation licensing prior to transporting children.
