Art with Heart
Family Activities
Looking for easy ways to connect as a family? Each month’s activity gives you a fun idea you can try at home, along with a place to share a photo of what you created together.
JANUARY
Family Activity: The Wish Jar
-
Find a jar, cup, or container you already have at home.
-
Give each family member a few small slips of paper.
-
Write down one hope, dream, or goal for the year — it can be meaningful or totally silly.
-
Decorate the jar together using markers, stickers, ribbon, or anything you have.
-
Add all your wishes to the jar and place it somewhere special.
-
Check back on your wishes later in the year to see how things are going.

FEBRUARY
Family Activity: Kindness Notes
-
Cut out several paper hearts in any size or color you like.
-
On each heart, write a kind message, appreciation, or drawing for someone.
-
Choose who you want to brighten — family members, neighbors, teachers, or friends.
-
Hide the hearts around your home for your family to find, or deliver them to others.
-
Talk about how giving kindness can feel just as good as receiving it.

MARCH
Family Activity: Signs of Spring Walk
-
Take a short family walk around your neighborhood or a nearby park.
-
Look closely for early signs of spring: buds, birds, puddles, greenery, or changing light.
-
Try to find at least five signs together and name them as you walk.
-
Choose one small natural item (like a stone, leaf, or pinecone) to bring home.
-
Talk about how nature changes from winter to spring.

APRIL
Family Activity: Rainbow Hunt & Craft
-
Look around your home for small items in each color of the rainbow.
-
Line them up in rainbow order — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.
-
Use your item rainbow as inspiration to draw, paint, or color your own rainbow artwork.
-
Display your rainbow somewhere your family can enjoy it.
-
Talk about favorite colors and how they appear in nature.

MAY
Family Activity: Plant Something Together
-
Choose something easy to grow: herbs, marigolds, beans, or sunflowers.
-
Fill small cups or a pot with soil and plant your seeds.
-
Write names on the cups and decide when each plant should be watered.
-
Place them near a sunny window and check on them each day.
-
Watch for the first tiny sprout and celebrate when it appears.

JUNE
Family Activity: Pride Kindness Chain
-
Cut colorful paper into strips (construction paper works great).
-
On each strip, write something kind: an appreciation, a compliment, or an uplifting word.
-
Loop each strip into a circle and staple or tape them together to form a chain.
-
Hang your kindness chain somewhere visible — a doorframe, window, or wall.
-
Add new links throughout the month as more kind thoughts come to mind.

JULY
Family Activity: Picnic Prep
-
Gather simple foods your family enjoys: fruit, sandwiches, snacks, or water bottles.
-
Let kids help wash fruit, assemble sandwiches, or pack the bag.
-
Choose a spot — a park, backyard, living room floor, or porch.
-
Spread out a blanket and enjoy your picnic together.
-
Spend a few minutes noticing sounds, smells, and favorite foods.

AUGUST
Family Activity: End-of-Summer Adventure Bingo
-
Draw a 3×3 or 4×4 grid on a piece of paper.
-
Fill each square with simple activities: chalk art, reading outside, new fruit, park visit, sunset watch, bird spotting, etc.
-
Let kids help choose the activities — the sillier, the better.
-
Complete as many squares as you can over the month.
-
Celebrate when your family gets “BINGO,” or just see how many squares you can fill.

SEPTEMBER
Family Activity: Backpack Launch Pad
-
Choose one spot in your home where school items will live — a hook, shelf, or corner.
-
Create a simple checklist: backpack, folder, water bottle, shoes, or anything your child needs.
-
Practice a quick 2-minute nightly routine of packing things for the next day.
-
Encourage your child to check off each item before bedtime.
-
Enjoy smoother mornings with less rushing.

OCTOBER
Family Activity: Family Spooky (or Silly) Tale
-
Sit together and start a story with one sentence.
-
Let each family member add the next sentence — spooky, funny, or completely ridiculous.
-
Keep going until your story feels finished.
-
Draw or color one favorite scene from the story.
-
Read the final story together and enjoy the laughs.
Photo to upload: The illustrated page or your family reading the story.
NOVEMBER
Family Activity: Gratitude Leaves
-
Cut paper leaves in fall colors — red, orange, yellow, and brown.
-
Write or draw something you’re thankful for on each leaf.
-
Tape the leaves to a window, wall, or door to create a family “gratitude tree.”
-
Add new leaves throughout the month as more ideas come up.
-
Take a moment to read the leaves together at the end of the month.

DECEMBER
Family Activity: Warm Wishes Basket
-
Find a small basket, bag, or box you can decorate together.
-
Add something thoughtful: a card, drawing, cocoa packet, craft, or baked treat.
-
Choose a neighbor, teacher, or community helper to receive it.
-
Deliver your Warm Wishes Basket together and brighten someone’s day.
-
Talk afterward about how it felt to give and connect.
